Call the shop

123 Main St, Platte City, MO Men's cut $22 Barber side is walk-in, no appointment

Services

Six things, split between the two sides of the room.

The short version of how this shop works. The barber chairs on the window side are walk-in and first come first served, and most days the wait is one person. The beauty chairs in the back take appointments, because color and perms hold a chair for two hours and it is not fair to book them against a walk-in. Tanning is by appointment too, and the bed is in the back room.

PLACEHOLDER: barber mid-cut on a man in a striped cape, clipper tapering the back of the neck, comb in the other hand, mirror reflection showing the rest of the shop behind them

Men's haircuts

Clipper cut, scissor cut, taper, fade, flat top, crew cut and the trim that is exactly what you got last time. Finished with a hot towel and a straight razor around the ears and the neck, which is included and not an upcharge.

$22

PLACEHOLDER: young boy sitting on a booster board laid across the arms of a barber chair, barber kneeling to his eye level with clippers, parent watching from a vinyl chair by the window

Kids and first haircuts

Booster board across the chair arms for the little ones, and no rush on a kid who is not sure about the clippers yet. First haircuts get a lock of hair in an envelope and a photo if you want one.

$16

PLACEHOLDER: straight razor shave in progress, face covered in hot lather, barber holding the skin taut with one hand and the razor at an angle in the other, steaming towel in a warmer beside the chair

Beard trims and straight razor shaves

Beard shaped and lined, mustache trimmed, or a full hot lather straight razor shave with two hot towels. Twenty minutes, and the closest shave you will get anywhere.

$18–$32

PLACEHOLDER: stylist blow drying a woman's shoulder length cut with a round brush at the beauty side station, product bottles and a hooded dryer visible behind

Women's cuts and styling

Cut, shampoo and blow dry, trims, layers, bang trims between visits, and a set for a wedding or a funeral on short notice. Shampoo and style without a cut is on the price list too.

$28–$42

PLACEHOLDER: foils being placed in sectioned hair at the beauty station, color bowl and brush on the cart, timer set, cape and towel around the client's shoulders

Color, foils and gray coverage

All-over color, gray coverage, foils and highlights, root touch-ups and a toner to fix a color that went brassy on somebody else's watch. Consultation first, and we will tell you if what you brought on your phone is not going to happen in one visit.

$55–$120

PLACEHOLDER: perm rods being wound in a client's hair at the shampoo bowl, end papers and rod tray on the cart, second stylist rinsing at the next bowl

Perms, sets and tanning

Perms and roller sets, which this shop has never stopped doing and there is a standing Thursday crowd for. Tanning bed in the back room, single sessions or a monthly package.

$65 / $8 a session

PLACEHOLDER: close crop of the hand-lettered price board hanging beside the mirror, service names and dollar amounts in painted lettering, a strip of yellowed photos tucked into the frame edge

The shop

Four chairs, a checkerboard floor and sixty five years of photographs.

There is not much to say about a room like this that the room does not say better. It has been a barber shop under one family since 1960, the floor is original, and the wall by the door is covered in photos of customers who are now bringing their grandchildren in.

The shop's name

One shop, and until now three names online.

The chair opened in 1960 and the shop has been in the same family and the same building the whole time. The founder passed in 2017 and his family kept it running, which is the reason a person can find this shop online under three different names and two different phone numbers and reasonably conclude there are three shops.

There is one. This page is it. Same corner, same four chairs, same price board, and the only thing that has really changed is that the beauty side got bigger and the tanning bed went in where the shoeshine stand used to be.

Barber chairs are walk-in the whole time we are open, and the last cut goes in the chair fifteen minutes before close. Beauty side is by appointment, so call for color, a perm, a set or the tanning bed. Saturday morning is the busiest two hours of the week by a wide margin, and Tuesday right after lunch is the emptiest.
